Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Accuses Congress Members Of Blindly Funnelling Money To ICE So It Could Set Up ‘Fake Universities To Trap Students’

As the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency faced fresh scrutiny on Wednesday over a sting that saw hundreds of foreign students arrested after being lured to apply for a fake university, New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez struck out at lawmakers for continuing to fund the embattled agency.

On Wednesday, The Detroit Free Press reported that 90 more students had been arrested in ICE’s controversial immigration bust, bringing the total number of detainees to as many as 250 foreign students. The majority are believed to have come from India.

The revelation comes months after the outlet first reported in January that hundreds of foreign students had been arrested after enrolling at the “University of Farmington,” a made-up Michigan college created by the Department of Homeland Security.

While ICE faced widespread condemnation over the new report, Ocasio-Cortez suggested that lawmakers should accept some of the blame for funnelling funding into the agency with little oversight.

“Earlier this year, Congress rushed to approve BILLIONS more $ for ICE + CBP,” Ocasio-Cortez said, implicating the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency as well.

“I saw members voting YES w/o even a summary of the bill. Nobody cared then how we’d pay for it,” she said. “Now ICE is setting up fake universities to trap students.”

“Yet, we were called radical for opposing it,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

“I see decisions made every day that cost the American public billions of dollars a year for bogus reasons and nobody asks how we pay for it,” the New York representative said.

“None of the politicians who brand themselves ‘fiscally responsible’ ever raise concern about rushing to shower ICE & CBP w/ $billions with 0 guardrails or oversight,” she asserted. Further, Ocasio-Cortez said: “None of them ask about how we pay for corrupt contracts or mass incarceration. Ask yourself why that is.”

“Look out for those in politics who like to label themselves ‘fiscally responsible,’ yet only seem to care about the price of justice–not the cost of oppression,” the self-proclaimed Democratic socialist said. “Everything has a price. And an unjust society is far costlier than one that invests in & values all people.”

Since early on in her grassroots campaign, Ocasio-Cortez has been calling for ICE to be abolished.

Over the past year and a half, those calls have only grown, particularly in the wake of the Trump administration’s widely condemned “zero tolerance” family separation policy.

‘Hannity’ Guest Slams Robert De Niro for Criticizing Trump, Says the Actor’s ‘Actually Helping the President’

A guest on Fox News’ Hannity on Wednesday night slammed Robert De Niro for publicly criticizing President Donald Trump and claimed that the actor’s harsh words were “actually helping the president.”

Earlier this month, De Niro appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and called Trump a “fake president”. When Colbert asked him to clarify his statement, De Niro said, “he calls everything fake because he knows he’s fake. He’s projecting.” The actor went on to discuss the ongoing impeachment inquiry into Trump and said that America “needed to get beyond this horrible situation.”

Jeffrey Lord, author of the book Swamp Wars, responded to De Niro’s criticisms of Trump during a segment on Wednesday’s Hannity.

“You mentioned Robert De Niro, I go back and forth trying to figure out whether Robert De Niro is a political turkey on the eve of Thanksgiving or whether, the superb actor he is, he’s secretly on President Trump’s payroll,” he told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “He has no clue that when he goes out like this he’s actually helping the president.”

Lord added: “As is this guy on MSNBC. People out in America see this, shake their heads and they are disgusted. And I talked, for instance, to a diner owner in central Pennsylvania, he says he doesn’t care about impeachment, he wants to know what’s being done.”

He went on to mock De Niro over a recent lawsuit filed by his former assistant Graham Chase Robinson, who accused the actor of making “abusive and sexist comments” toward her and said that he fostered a “hostile work environment.” When announcing the suit to the press, Robinson made public a voicemail message the actor left her, during which he shouted, “How dare you f***ing disrespect me?”

De Niro’s lawyer replied to the suit by claiming that the “allegations made by Graham Chase Robinson against Robert De Niro are beyond absurd.”

Her filing came two months after his company, Canal Productions, sued Robinson in New York state court, claiming she misappropriated the company’s funds by charging “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in personal expenses to Canal’s American Express card.

The lawsuit accused Robinson of using the company’s frequent flier miles for her personal use, as well as submitting “false information in order to be paid for” 96 unused vacation days.

They also claimed that Robinson “loafed during working hours, binge-watching astounding hours of TV shows on Netflix.”

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Admits Trump Is A ‘Full-Blown BS Artist’ and ‘Compulsive Self-Promoter’

Fox News host Tucker Carlson described President Donald Trump as a “racist liar” and “full-blown BS artist” during a segment defending Trump on the Wednesday edition of his television program.

Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson launched an unusual defense of President Donald Trump Wednesday night, describing the president as a “racist liar” and a “full-blown BS artist.”

Carlson made the claims on his Fox News show Tucker Carlson Tonight. He began by bringing up the Washington Post‘s claim that Trump has made more than 13,000 “false or misleading claims” since taking office in January 2017. Carlson seemed to agree that the president frequently fails to tell the truth and used a clip of Trump wrongly claiming that the crowd attending his inauguration ceremony was the “biggest ever.”

“We’re not going to lie to you: that was untrue,” said Carlson. “The crowd at the 2017 inauguration was not the largest ever measured on the national mall. Sorry, it wasn’t.”

The pundit then explained he believes Trump made the false claim because it is part of his nature, likening the president’s alleged repeated lying to the skill set of a car salesman.

“That’s who he is,” said Carlson. “Donald Trump is a salesman. He’s a talker, a boaster, a booster, a compulsive self-promoter. At times, he’s a full-blown BS artist. If Trump hadn’t gotten rich in real estate, he could have made a fortune selling cars.”

Carlson appeared to discount the importance of Trump lying, saying that “most people know” Trump is a frequent liar because it’s “obvious.” Although Carlson’s monologue initially seemed bizarre coming from a Trump supporter, it soon became clear that he was setting up an attempt to defend the president, suggesting progressives focused on lying are using it as a type of smokescreen to obscure the supposed anger they have over Trump “telling the truth.”

“Is lying really the reason the left despises Donald Trump?” Carlson asked. “Or could the real problem be, as is so often the case, the exact opposite of what they claim it is? Think back over the last four years. When have the CNN anchors been the angriest? Was it when Donald Trump told some whopper, or exaggerated his own accomplishments? No. They’re used to that kind of lying, everyone who spends time around politicians is used to it. What infuriates official Washington is not when Trump lies, it’s when he tells the truth. Truth is the real threat to their power.”

Carlson claimed that “people in charge of our country” avoid any reflection on societal problems, while participating in an “increasingly strict policy of mandatory reality avoidance” to avoid the truth as presented by Trump.

“Diversity is our strength! Shut up, or we’ll hurt you,” shouted Carlson, apparently impersonating a fictional person he disagrees with politically.

“But Trump won’t shut up, he keeps talking,” Carlson said. “That’s his crime, that’s why they hate him.”

In support of what he believes is Trump’s truth-telling, the Fox News host recalled the then-candidate’s statement in 2015 regarding undocumented immigrants from Mexico. Trump claimed the immigrants were “bringing crime” and drugs and consisted of “rapists” before qualifying the statement by adding “and some of them, I assume, are good people.”

Carlson claimed progressive opposition to the statement was evidence that “you are absolutely, under no circumstances allowed to say” undocumented immigrants ever commit crimes. The pundit did not specify who was prohibiting the speech, or what happens when the supposed prohibition is broken.

Later in the show, a graphic claimed “left hates Trump because he exposes their flaws” as Carlson blamed crime in Baltimore, Maryland on “50 years of uninterrupted Democratic rule” while praising controversial disparaging statements Trump has made about the city, before mockingly taking on the screeching tone of a fictional political opponent, saying “let’s just agree that Trump is a racist liar and move on.”
