Sean Payton gets Nickelodeon’s slime treatment after Saints’ win
Sean Payton is a man of his word.
The New Orleans Saints coach said Friday if his team beat the Chicago Bears on Sunday, he’d be willing to get slimed — “whatever that means,” Payton said.
Payton learned exactly what that meant following Sunday’s 21-9 NFC wild card playoff victory, which was aired both on CBS and Nickelodeon, the children’s TV network. Both channels are owned by ViacomCBS.
Dumping slime on people is sort of Nickelodeon’s schtick. And Payton received that bucket after his postgame interview, with the green goo soaking him.
The Nickelodeon broadcast was tailored toward kids, with Young Sheldon explaining foul calls, SpongeBob SquarePants appearing between the uprights and computer-generated slime splashing in the end zone when a player crossed the plane.
The halftime highlights were done to mimic the graphics of Minecraft, a block-based video game. The broadcast also featured Nickelodeon stars Gabrielle Nevaeh Green and Lex Lumpkin. Green joined play-by-play announcer Noah Eagle and analyst Nate Burleson in the booth, while Lumpkin served as a sideline reporter.
