Nothing can get between New Yorkers and their morning coffee – and apparently, this even extends to the city’s rat population.
New York City’s “Pizza Rat” went viral in 2015 and since then, other rats have been seen carrying slices, but now, Twitter user Melissa Walker has posted a video of a rat carrying a coffee cup while waiting for the 3 train in Brooklyn.
Walker shared a video of the rat carrying a cup across a subway platform on Twitter Wednesday. “Made my whole day!!” she captioned the video, which she noted was taken at the Franklin Avenue station.
She deemed the little creature #coffeerat. And now, like Pizza Rat before it, Coffee Rat has gone viral.
Other Twitter users reacted to the video, some even had theories about where Coffee Rat was headed.
Mike Billips responded to Walker’s original tweet with a joke: “Best part is, he’s bringing that coffee to the boss rat.”
NYCT Subway, an official Twitter account for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, also piped in, curious about what line “Coffee Rat” was waiting to board during the evening rush.
“Good evening,” NYCT Subway wrote. “Coffee Rat’s in a bit of a hurry. Can you tell us which line and platform at Franklin Av this is?”
And another user, Billy Freeland, wrote that the video was reminicent of a New Yorker magazine cover comparing a rat and a human in the subway.
Coffee Rat is fortunate to live in New York; the caffeine-seeking critter might have been slapped with a ticket for eating or drinking on other cities’ metro platforms.
