“He has a lot of good information,” Trump said. “I have not spoken to him about that information yet.”
Giuliani, who is reported to have traveled to Ukraine this week to continue his quest to dig up dirt on Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden, has come under fire during the impeachment hearings for carrying out a shadow diplomacy to aid Trump’s re-election.
The New York Times reported on Wednesday that the former New York City mayor met with ousted Ukrainian prosecutors Yuriy Lutsenko, Viktor Shokin and Kostiantyn H. Kulyk while taking part in the filming of a production by conservative cable news channel One America News Network.
Trump’s remarks on Giuliani’s trip come a day after the White House said it would decline to participate in the House Judiciary Committee’s impeachment hearings, which were criticized by White House Counsel Pat Cipollone as “completely baseless” in a letter to committee chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.).
On Saturday, Trump reiterated his claim that the impeachment inquiry investigating his actions on Ukraine was “a hoax.”
