An active shooter has been killed after opening fire at the U.S. Navy Air Station Pensacola in the Florida Panhandle, police have confirmed.
The base posted on Facebook on Friday morning that it was locked down “due to reports of an active shooter,” and Escambia County Sheriff’s Office confirmed shortly afterward that “there is no longer an active shooter on NAS Pensacola. The shooter is confirmed dead.”
The Pensacola News Journal reported that local scanner traffic indicated 10 patients are being transported to local hospitals, and a journalist from local new network WeArTV posted video of a life-flight helicopter launching from a hospital as multiple ambulances arrived.
